How ByteWave handles your data

ByteWave has three layers of functionality. Each one handles data differently, and we want to be specific about what happens at each level.

The video editor

The video editor runs entirely on your device using Apple's Metal GPU framework and on-device machine learning. This includes frame interpolation, motion blur, noise reduction, super resolution upscaling, voice synthesis, auto captions, subject masking, and all shader-based filters. None of these features require a network connection. The editor works in airplane mode.

No footage, audio, project data, or ML inference results ever leave your device. There is no server infrastructure behind the editor. We do not use analytics SDKs, crash reporting services, or advertising networks of any kind.

The public video feed

ByteWave includes a public video feed that any user can browse. We do not log watch history, track viewing behavior, or record any activity associated with anonymous users on our servers.

Feed recommendations and liked video history are computed and stored entirely on your device using local storage. Our server does not know which videos you watched, which ones you liked, or why a particular video was shown to you.

Social features (optional)

Creating a profile is entirely optional. The video editor and feed browsing work without one. If you choose to create a profile we do not store your email address.

Once you have a profile, you can opt in to social features including publishing videos to the feed and tagging. These features require you to read about how they work before enabling them. If you publish a video, tags can optionally be generated on your device before upload.

Third parties

We do not sell or share your data with advertisers, data brokers, governments, or any third party. We do not use third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or behavioral tracking.
